TLN Motorsports with Hass/Serafini Racing at the A2 Wind Tunnel

TLN Motorsports was very fortunate to be invited by Hass/Serafini Racing to attend the wind tunnel testing of their compound turbo Suzuki; the next 300 mph sit on motorcycle. On the Friday the day after Thanksgiving Don Hass, Steven Serafini, Joe Timney, Greg and Tracy Neal gathered in Mooresville, NC at the A2 Wind Tunnel. The objective for the day was simple, test the aerodynamic body on the compound turbo Suzuki. Find the correct combination of Aero HP, balance and down force to allow that bike to reach its full potential as safely as possible. TLN Motorsports had been invited to the test due to their long time association with Hass/Serafini racing and past wind tunnel experience.

After baseline conditions were established Don Hass took his place in the rider position for the first of many pulls where the most difficult part of the job was to remain still during the entire test. While I know what the numbers are, let’s just say the initial test was impressive. The numbers were equal to aerodynamic tests on other purpose built Land Speed Racing bodies from the very beginning Friday morning.

The usual series of changes and runs were made with the usual mixed results. Things that you are sure will help sometimes are mind boggling as the do the opposite of what is expected. It gives you a different perspective on aerodynamics, on what really works and what doesn’t. You learn about frontal area vs overall shape. One change always affects many different aspects of the motorcycle. The wind tunnel is the only true quick way to learn the affect of each change made.

One major change was made that produced unbelievable results. As the numbers started to come up on the graph there was silence in the control room. No one was believeing the numbers that were showing. The tunnel operator stated “It is the biggest gain from a single change I have ever seen”. The decision was made to go back to the baseline set up and compare the numbers. That gain had to be verified as legitimate. Another baseline run was made and the numbers returned to very close to the first baseline test. Hass/Serafini Racing may just have hit the Holy Grail. The bodywork on the compound turbo bike was making Aero HP numbers not seen before, with good balance and a significant amount of front and rear down force. It had well exceeded what anyone there thought was possible at the beginning of the day.

To end the day Greg Neal took a turn in the riders position on the motorcycle to get a feel of the bikes stability in the tunnel and how he fit on the machine. Does that indicate anything for the future? That all remains to be seen, but he was quoted as saying “A future ride on that machine would make a racing career. There is nothing like this bike in existence anywhere”.

TLN Motorsports was not only able to help out Hass/Serafini racing at the tunnel; they were able to gain some very valuable information for their own aerodynamic body program. While that bike will not appear for them in 2016, there is a long range goal and through the partnership with Hass/Serafini Racing there will be some surprises taking to the race track in the next few seasons. There is a plan and it is moving forward.

While this bike may not be the one that ends up taking to the track for TLN Motorsports, the information gained testing it is invaluable in the future aerodynamic body bike they will run. This body will be making an appearance in the future though. When TLN Motorsports teams up with Hass/Serafini racing, you never know what may happen.

TLN Motorsports success is because of the support from the best in the business. Without each of them it would not be possible. The World Record holding ZX-6R will return in 2016

After a lot of work to understand what happened to cause the catastrophic engine failure to the ZX-6R, and a tremendous amount of support from sponsors and friends, all of the needed parts to rebuild the bike are in hand.  KWS Motorsports will start the process in January of 2016 and we expect to have a race ready ZX-6R by mid-March.  We expect the motorcycle to be even faster than before.

TLN Motorsports Chase to 311 : 2016 Partnership Announcement

It is with great pleasure, that we, at TLN Motorsports announce a partnership with Fred Vance and Vance & Forstall Racing for the 2016 Land Speed Racing season. Fred Vance and Larry Forstall are among the who’s who of Land Speed Racing. Their accomplishments are many and well known. In the Land Speed community, these two are legendary. We, at TLN Motorsports, have followed their accomplishments for many years. They are also known for the way they do things. The description “Class Act” fits them perfectly. To be associated with the name Vance & Forstall is a dream come true for us at TLN Motorsports. It is the opportunity that we needed to ensure our chance to get to record #311 in 2016.

We, at TLN Motorsports, will continue to campaign our ZX-6R and EX-250R, along with a V-Max, in a partnership with Stephen Serafini and Fab-U-This, we will now also be riding the Vance and Forstall 1657 Suzuki. This bike opens up opportunities for records in many different classes. It allows us to be competitive with some of the larger displacement motorcycles at the events. Rider, Greg Neal said, “It is simply the opportunity of a lifetime. I have known Fred Vance for a while and everything he has ever ridden was fast. The combination of TLN Motorsports with Vance & Forstall Racing will make quite a team and the potential in 2016 is unlimited. To ride for people that you have so much respect for is more than anyone could ever ask for”.

While Fred Vance may be stepping back from the riding duties, his vast experience is another reason this partnership will work so well in 2016. Greg Neal of TLN Motorsports has over 900 runs of Land Speed Racing, but Fred Vance can always give invaluable information. There is simply nothing better than experience when it comes to racing.

With the plans for 2016 starting to take shape, it is looking like another big year could be in store for TLN Motorsports.

The EX-250R will be ready to battle in the twins classes. The ZX-6R will be back better than ever, faster than before and ready to once again push the World’s Fastest Speeds she already holds. The Fab-U-This turbo V-Max will be a bike to be reckoned with and now the Vance & Forstall Racing bike brings it all together.

While the focus for the team is 311 records, the most important goal that TLN Motorsports has ever had. It is all about honoring the memory of Bill Warner. You know Bill was special when we still find ourselves talking about him every day. Rider, Greg Neal said, “I am not only better as a Land Speed Racer from being friends with Bill, I’m a better person. Bill showed each of us how to live life, how to treat people, how to represent Land Speed Racing. He was one of a kind.”

The possibilities are endless for this combination. Once record 311 is achieved they will continue to race throughout the 2016 season. How many records can be set by the end of 2016? That remains to be seen, but the addition of Vance & Forstall Racing make thinking about the 400 mark a real possibility. For now the focus is 311. It will be some celebration on the day that record is set.

TLN Motorsports would like to thank all of the sponsors that make our continued success possible.

UPDATE on 311 for Mr. 311: Stephen Serafini and Fab U This come onboard

TLN Motorsports went into the Loring Timing Association’s Harvest Event with a total of 251 Land Speed Racing Records under their belt, 60 records short of the 311 goal the team has set to honor Bill Warner. Rider Greg Neal had these comments about Bill Warner. Bill’s 311 mph speed at Loring was and is an amazing accomplishment that will never be forgotten. Bill was more than the King of Speed; He was a friend to all, a racer who took time for everyone and an ambassador for the sport of Land Speed Racing. Bill didn’t seek the attention, but he was our icon. He knew about us all and the struggles and success we had. He was always the first with words of encouragement or congratulations. TLN Motorsports is both grateful and honored to have the opportunity to attempt to set 311 Land Speed Racing records as a way to honor the memory of the legend and a friend.

At the end of the event TLN Motorsports had set an incredible 46 mew Land Speed Racing records bringing rider Greg Neal and TLN Motorsports to 297 time Land Speed Record holder. The success of the team was amazing, but a serious mechanical failure had ended the season for the teams ZX-6R, a key piece in the chase to 311 records. It was a loss that really took all the wind out of the sails at TLN Motorsports. The question was now, how do we get to 311 and can we get it done in 2016 to meet our goal. At a time the team should be happy and celebrating a huge achievement, it was quiet and there were just to many questions with no answers to be found.

The answer to our questions was only a few pit stalls away. In a conversation at the race track on the afternoon after the mechanical issues with the 600 Don Hass and Stephen Serafini came up with the answer.

We, at TLN Motorsports are so proud to announce a partnership with Stephen Serafini and Fab U This to campaign a turbo Vmax in the 2016 Land Speed Racing season. The offer from Stephen was one that rider Greg Neal jumped on. “I’ve been watching the Hass/Serafini Racing team for many years and what they are able to accomplish is mind blowing. To have an opportunity to ride a motorcycle prepared by Stephen out of the Fab U this stable is a dream come true and something I have always wanted to do. Top it off with the fact that the bike is a Vmax, Bill’s favorite bike. That’s the motorcycle we will set record 311 on. It’s just how it is supposed to happen.”

The opportunity to be a part of the Fab U This team has re-energized the TLN Motorsports team. To work with some of the most well respected people in the fabrication and racing business is something that just doesn’t happen every day. Stephen Serafini is a master fabricator. His work is pure art. When you see something that he has created you can’t help but stare in amazement. The Hass/Serafini team has had tremendous success in Land Speed Racing and the new creation they have is a motorcycle destined to make Land Speed Racing history. There is excitement in the air and record 311 will be set in 2016 on 311 N. Bill Warner Blvd on a Fab U This prepared turbo Vmax. Everything happens for a reason and we are truly blessed to have such an opportunity. I expect she may look a little different before next season. We will definitely not be on a rigid chassis, but one thing is obvious. The bike will be fast and a record setter. At TLN Motorsports we are already looking forward to 2016 and a new chapter in our racing efforts. Thanks to Stephen Serafini and Fab U This the chase to 311 continues.

TLN Motorsports would like to thank all of the sponsors that make our continued success possible.
